Born in Turin in 1990.
She lives and works between Italy and Spain.
Chiara Baima Poma’s artistic project is based on the collection of stories, proverbs, and popular legends which, through their reinterpretation and reproduction in painting, become her way of interpreting reality. Her work aims to provoke reflection by using the contrast between the real and the fantastic to reveal a raw, sometimes harrowing, yet miraculous and consoling scenario, which manifests itself through the metaphor and unrealistic images. The intertwining of everyday life and fabulous or religious narratives in her works highlights the presence of an inscrutable dimension of reality. This often-forgotten dimension in a world crushed by the present tends to flatten the differences between places and cultures. Hence, her need to portray a missing part of this narrative: mystery, the unknown, the incomprehensible — themes that revolve around the great questions every culture has sought to address across time.
The aesthetics of her works are rich in references to Gothic painting and early Renaissance art, combined with imagery drawn from her travels, which are a fundamental element of her inspiration and research.
